At the Horse Racing Track with Debbie Christie and Sir Robert Jones

 Letter from Debbie Christie:
While I was visiting my family the first week in June this year, my mom, sister, and I went to the racetrack in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Their season was already over but had live racing broadcasts from other parks around the country. We played three races. On the first race I told them that I was going to bet on horse number six across the board. My sister chose a different horse and lost. The race ended, and number six wins. It happened to be a long shot, paying around $50 on a $2 dollar across-the-board bet. On the next race, this time my sister asked me what horse I was going to bet on, because she was going to bet whatever I bet. I told her, number two across-the-board. We both bet on number two, and number two won, again another long shot and we both won around $50 on our $2 bet. I also threw in a bet on number four, which came in second place. Then on the third race, I said that my bet was on horse number four and three, somewhere in the top three. When number four and three came in second and third place, my sister looked at my mother with this puzzled look, and with Mom’s gentle southern voice she said to her, “Debbie just has this way with seeing numbers.” I added that it was a little something I learned in school. Suddenly, Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment gained some credibility with my sister Rhonda, when in the past she has only tolerated our conversations about school.
The look on my sister’s face was priceless to me, but what I took away as a learning was “BET MORE MONEY!” Note: Races 1 and 3, from Prairie Meadows. Race 5, from Delaware Park. |
